The Parable of the Good Samaritan is precipitated by and in answer to a question posed to Jesus by a lawyer. The question "What shall I do to inherit eternal life?" This question provided Jesus with an opportunity to define what His disciples’ relationship should be to their neighbors. So the people have to get involve then may quote scripture and recite platitudes on love and God. The only law we should had is love. This is because they are helping someone even at their own expense.
When reading the Good Samaritan Parable, I thought that the purpose of it was to teach all people to love each other and not to discriminate one another. Jesus wanted us to treat one another the same regardless of the differences other people might have. He wants us to love our neighbors, as we would love ourselves or other loved ones. By doing this, we are less likely to treat one another differently or be unselfish.
What the Workers in the Vineyard parable teaches us about ourselves as a people is that we are all part of God’s Kingdom and holiness. By serving him and fulfilling his word, gets us closer and closer to eternal life, which was what he wanted for us this entire time. Whether or not one has given themselves to Christ right away, or later life doesn’t matter. As long as that person has a positive spirit about the Lord, and has faith in the Lord is what really counts.
The parable of the good Samaritan tells us Jesus that answers the lawyer's question about who is his neighbor. A neighbor could be anyone in your family or anyone that lives in your area. The parable tells us that a man was robbed, beaten and left on the road looking like he was half-dead. Then a priest walks down the road notices the man but keeps walking on the other side of the road. A Levite then passes the man and does the same thing. But a Samaritan sees the wounded man and cleans his wounds and takes him to an inn. This part is important because Samaritans were known as bad people but this certain ones show his compassion toward a stranger. This shows me that people can be much more different than what they are viewed as especially if it is my neighbor or someone else that I know. Jesus is teaching the lawyer to be compassionate toward people just like the Samaritan.

The parable of the workers in the vineyard tells me that a landowner hires workers to labor in his vineyard and he will pay them each one penny, more workers are hired and when the work was all done every worker got their money reward . The first group of workers wonders why every worker was paid the same even though they deserved more because they worked longing than anyone else. The landowner says that he did nothing wrong. The importance of this parable is that the landowner paid the same amount of money to every worker just like God shows everyone the same mercy and fairness because that is his word that we need to respect and follow.

The importance of this parable is that the landowner paid the same amount of money to every worker just like God shows everyone the same mercy and fairness because that is his word that we need to respect and follow.
Matthew 20: 1-16 Jesus tells the Parable of the Laborers in the Vineyard (Matthew 20:1-16) in response to Peter’s question. "We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?" Peter wanted to know what reward would be given to those who give up everything to follow Jesus. In response, Jesus explains this truth about the kingdom of heaven. Jesus’ teaching that others could inherit a heavenly kingdom they thought was reserved for them alone. They despised Jesus for offering the kingdom to poor, oppressed, weak sinners whom He made equal to them. The rest of the workers received their wages without complaint or envy of others. God is faithful to reward us for our service as God has promised, and how God rewards others should be of no consequence to them, nor should it affect of the people devotion to God.
Parable of the lost son I think you would be the brother who the elder brother represents the self-righteous. Because when come to work for me is fairness. The brother is so consumed with issues of justice and equity that he fails to see the value of his brother’s repentance and return. I would do the same but I would question why you honor him so specially and what about me. He older brother avoids acknowledging that the prodigal is his own brother but can't blame him. Like the person work more hours than other bet pay in the same amount.
I believe I resemble the older brother because normally I do the right thing, and most of the time it gets recognized. In this parable, it talks about how the younger brother did terrible acts behind his father’s back without letting him know, and was still forgiven. So, the older brother got jealous because he knew if he pulled something like that, he would get in trouble. When being compared to that situation, I do not think I would be jealous because jealousy is a bad trait to have. If I were jealous, I would do any and everything to make sure that my brother didn’t get to do anything or go anywhere. So, to prevent that I would just go about that situation as maturely as possible.
The Parable of the Prodigal Son I think that I am the older brother because I obey rules and orders and do the right thing. When the older brother sees that his younger brother has returned the the father celebrates by giving him a feast, the older brother gets mad at his father because of it. I think that I am the order brother in this passage because I sometimes give into my anger wen I feel that I deserve this over the person but I must show compassion so that I don't get devoured by my anger.
I would say that I would represent the Samaritan over the Priest. I say this because I think that if someone needs help immediately, someone should step up and come in for the rescue. Especially if you are right in the midst of the situation, which was the case in the Parable of The Good Samaritan. A ill Samaritan was lying helplessly on the road and a Levite and a Jewish priest strolled past the man, like their was no one there. One possible reason why the priest didn’t pursue in helping him was because if he suspected the man on the road was dead, and the priest wounded up touching him, he would be considered “impure” to perform any service or rituals in the Church. In my opinion, I think it was kind of selfish to leave a person that was in that bad of a position. That’s why I think I am more like the Samaritan because he did the right thing and just put everything else aside and cared about someone else more than himself.
The parable of the Good Samaritan: Am I the Samaritan, the priest, or the lawyer
In the parable of the Good Samaritan, I really think that I am the lawyer because I sometimes wonder about who is my true friend or neighbor? When Jesus tells the parable to the lawyer, he hears that a Samaritan who he thought was a bad person helps a man who is half-dead and cares for him. The Samaritan shows compassion and cares for the beaten man simply because he wants too. When the lawyer hears this, he is probably wonders that since the Samaritan helped the beaten man then maybe all Samaritans aren't bad people. I sometimes feel this sort of thing when see that people who I thought were bad actually do something good. I may not be as compassionate as the Samaritan or as selfish as the priest but I feel confused and ask questions like the lawyer. In the end, people aren't always who they seem to be depicted or described as because there may be something more to them.
The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard shows the lesson of equality and mercy. The landowner offered one denarius, and the workers were grateful and willing to work for exactly that much. Those workers were apart of the first group of workers. However, when it came to the last group, who only an hour, opposed to the workers who worked all day, got paid the same amount. This is equality, however, not doing the workers in the first group justice. This relates to how Jesus offers mercy to whoever he chooses. Not only the ones who sins the least, or attends church the most. Whoever he chooses to provide his mercy.
The Parable of The Good Samaritan has many meanings in the text. Within the story, the lawyer asks Jesus what he has to do to obtain eternal life. Basically asking him, what he has to do, in order for Jesus to allow him to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Like as if, there were certain steps and tasks that must be done in order to obtain eternal life.
However, Jesus understands that it's not a matter of what he needs to do, but a way of living life, in order to obtain eternal life. The parable also includes someone getting robbed, stripped and beaten. A priest and a Levite pass by without helping him, however, when a Samaritan passes by him, he helps him. This is ironic, because you would genuinely expect the priest or levite to help him and not the samaritan because of their reputations. However, it turned out to be the other way around.
The Parable of the Good Samaritan I think I would become a lawyer, mainly because I think would be a good priest. In this case the lawyer would have been an expert in the Mosaic Law and not a court lawyer of today. By referring to the Law, Jesus is directing the man to an authority they both would accept as truth, the Old Testament. The lawyer is mankind without the true understanding of God and His Word. The priest is religion in an apostate condition.
The Gospel of Luke, Chapter 1 basically talks about Gabriel promising Zechariah that Elizabeth will have a new born son, that will be acknowledged as John, who will become John the Baptist later on his life. Zechariah also told Mary that she will be the mother of the Son of God, who will be acknowledged as Jesus, who will be our savior. This shows us how God works in mysterious ways and how he wants us to follow a certain path in life, that he planned out for us. I can relate to this because God has put me in certain positions throughout my life, and I didn't even expect to be there at that specific place or during that specific time.

Parable of the good samaritan
So a man asked jesus what is it that will give me eternal life. Jesus responds with saying if you obey the written word then eternal life is coming your way. He then mentions the rule of “love your neighbor as you would love yourself.” He then asks who exactly is his neighbor, so Jesus tells the story of the good samaritan. So he mentions a man walking from jerusalem to jericho gets robbed and beaten to the point he is almost half dead. A total of three people walk by him. First a priest met the beaten man and walks on the opposite side of the road, the second person a levite does the same thing, the third a samaritan helped him to such a great extent. Context of the time samaritans were seen as punks because they were the descendants of Joseph. So they were the hated group of the jews. So the man looked at it with a weird eye because samaritans were looked at as dirty thieves. And in the story there was no part in the story saying the samaritan was his neighbor. So what jesus was saying was that you should treat anyone with compassion and mercy no matter ethnicity/race.
I learned that a parable is a heavenly story put into an earthly perspective, and that all the characters represent someone or something else. This one was no different. As usual the landowner represents the Lord, the workers His followers, and the vineyard, His Kingdom. The pay stands for the rewards of salvation. The work is what His followers do to deserve the reward, and the day is the length of time they’re given to do it, normally their lifespan. This parable wasn’t meant to be a management meeting. It was given to illuminate three critical principles having to do with the Kingdom of Heaven.
Jesus, in this parable, isn’t asking us to go and do likewise so that we can be charitable like the Samaritan. His point is much more subtle. Of course, we are to bind the wounds of the wounded. Of course, we are to take care of the oppressed and the downtrodden. We all know this to be what God asks of us. Works of charity and or mercy which is given in a or the life of faith.
In chapter 3, from Luke’s Gospel, it talks about how John the Baptist, who is now a grown man, comes back and starts preaching a baptism in the desert. While he was doing that, he soon came across one significant person, Jesus. Since Jesus came to him, John had baptized Jesus along with all the people, but when he had baptized Jesus, in the Gospel it had declared that Heaven had opened up and the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus. Plus, a voice from heaven had came, which expressed God’s love for His Son. In chapter 4, Jesus was sent out into the desert by the Spirit to be tempted by the devil. During this time he had disproved the devil with his temptations, and so he then left Him alone until another time. When Jesus had returned to His hometown, He had performed miracles, one of them was casting out a demon from a man, and the healing of Simon’s mother-in-law.
In chapter 5, Jesus started to get followers by teaching fairly crowds while standing on the shore of the lake of Gennesaret back in Galilee. As time went on, Jesus boarded Simon's boat and also started teaching the crowds on the shore while sitting in the boat. This shows that Jesus was very persuasive not only due to his personality and knowledge, but from God speaking through him as well. In chapter 6, it talks about how Jesus ascended to a mountain where he spent a whole night in prayer to God, and when the daytime came, he had summoned his disciples and only chose 12 of them. List is where Jesus turns Simon’s old name into Peter, which means rock.
I must say, I think I have met Jesus in many different people, and in many different places. Everywhere I go, I can tell that he is around. He never leaves me astray, and if he sees that I am having trouble with something, he will magically put someone in the midst of my situation to help me. That has happened countless times years before, and it is still happening now. In most recent cases, I feel Jesus is inside of my mom. It seems like whenever something is going bad for me or when anything bad happens, my mother is always there at the right time. She always knows what to say and she always knows what to do, when I am in certain situations and need help.
Why was an apple chosen to be the fruit in the Adam and Eve story?
We do not know why an apple was chosen to be the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge because there is nothing in the bible verses saying what fruit it was. There is no mention of any fruit, like an apple, or orange, or grapefruit, or pear, or grape or a watermelon. The Bible only identifies that they ate the forbidden fruit. Now, why most people believe the idea of the fruit being an apple comes from several hundred years ago when people studied and learned how to read and write in Latin. At the time of the Latin Vulgate, the word for evil used in Genesis, which was used to describe the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil was “malum”. It just so happened that the Latin word for apple was also “malum”. So, ever since the time of the Latin Vulgate, people have considered the forbidden fruit to have been an apple because of the Latin meaning.
When I read this section of Luke, I realized some key points that can help with all people in their. If you have the funds or money to help advance the lives of the less fortunate, you should do it. By doing these kindly act, you are setting a good example for future leaders. It turns a person into a great role model and influencer, just like Jesus was in his time. He lead by example, and he gained followers through the way he spoke with persuasion and truth.
What we learned and discussed in class today was PDR, which is the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus. The Passion represents suffering, His death represents dying on the cross, and his Resurrection represents him arising from the dead. The PDR is the oldest part of the Gospel. Next, we learned about how Paul passes on traditions of Last Supper, which is today's communion with receiving the Body, and Blood of Christ. This can be closely related to the Eucharist as well, which means good gift.
We also learned about the Song of Miriam. This song was significant because when the people of Israel crossed the Red Sea, they had sang that song. With John the Baptist, we learned that his story starts in the Gospel of Mark. With the Birth of Jesus we learned that his birth was the fulfillment of all prophecies.
Lastly, we learned about how Moses freed the slaves from Egypt, so that they can travel to the promised land, and we learned that Moses' brother is Aaron.
Reflection on Luke 18:35-43 (A Blind Beggar Receives His Sight)
In this story it talks about how a blind man is sitting by the roadside begging to people. When the blind man finally found out what was happening from another civilian, he found out that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. As Jesus was passing by he said “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” When he was finally brought to Jesus, Jesus had cured his eye sight and allowed the man to see. What I got from this story is that if you continue to have faith in God, and be patient, good things will happen.
The Parable of the Good Samaritan is precipitated by and in answer to a question posed to Jesus by a lawyer. The question "What shall I do to inherit eternal life?" This question provided Jesus with an opportunity to define what His disciples’ relationship should be to their neighbors. Reflection on Luke 18:18-23
ReplyDeleteWhen I read this section of Luke, I realized some key points that can help with all people in their.
Summary of Notes 2/29/16
ReplyDeleteWhat we learned and discussed in class today was PDR, which is the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus.
ReplyDeleteIn this story it talks about how a blind man is sitting by the roadside begging to people.
